So all the painters start doing the plastering, who's gonna do the painting? No one coz the painters are plastering so the rates go up then the decs go back to that

It's all economy of scales and in the end it comes down to how many men there are to do the jobs

Whats your opinion why we still skim in uk rather than do what Germans do.
As you say we are years behind.

You mite be getting £6m2 where u live bobby but I bet u a £1000 u wudnt get that my way in Yorkshire..we are getting £3.70 and we are direct to contractor..

Skimming if done compentily is superior in my opinion,regardless of time saving on taping.

Hi lads,

Pretty chuffed with myself today just been to a quote, one ceiling 12ft x 12 ft ...told the bloke £6.80 a m2 and got the job so I am buzzing now because hoping kitchy is a man of his word and sends me the grand and I calculated the one ceiling just earned me £1088.50p

Try pricing 37 appartments and 4 floor staircase and 4 corridoor areas at £6m2..ud be laughed out of the building in the Yorkshire area..gubby jobs or little extensions we prob get about £10m2 if not more as we work on how many days it will take etc..and to not get any wires crossed we get £3.70m2 LABOUR only which is a decent price..any lads from Yorkshire will back me up on the fact you cant charge £6m2 skim only in Yorkshire on site work..no chance

3.70 is still better than most people offer on here sometimes, it's more likely 2.50-3.00 in previous threads.

We charge £4 on sum jobs zolco labour only but that's top whack..sumtimes we charge £3.50m2 all depends on job..wen we get help in we only make 50p on lads so if we get £3.50m2 we pay lads £3 and so on and so on..i wudnt even waste my time and put £6 in it wud make me look silly
 
I dont think we will ever know if it takes off but we can all look back at this thread and say "I told you so" in 10 years time :D

Wats that got to do with skimming? Are you Yorkshire area? I cant comment on ur prices as I'm not from ur way so how can you or bobby comment on Yorkshire prices? Have u ever set foot in Yorkshire? If you read thru my thread I said u cant put £6m2 in Yorkshire are u mite get away with where ur from but u wont in yorkshire

It does depends on location be that site work or domestic what you can charge.

It goes without saying zolco..some people on here need to wake up and smell the coffee..its totally dependent on where u live..£3.70m2 in London or any high living cost area is s**t but its decent up our way and the competing price

Bobby didn't comment on Yorkshire prices though did he, he said he was happy skimming and getting £6m2 for it. You just seem bitter that he's charging more than you.

I haven't got a clue what the rates are in London or anywhere for that matter. I only go about what I see here and on factbook. As long as you make it pay and provides a good income I don't think you or anyone else should be concerned.
