Carlite was a load of horrible slimey, snotty shite IMO.
f**k**g hated mixing it with a stick and plodger.
I actually think that Multifinish is fairly similar. The big difference is that we were only using Carlite Finish with suction.
I liked it, but you make a good point about suction, mixing any plaster back then with a stick and podger was s**t.

I can't replicate it either, that's the most frustrating thing. It's hit and miss.

Simple to work out though but only BG know the answer. Theres an issue and that's a fact. But is it down to them messing with stuff? or is it storage? hmm
When I started this game back in the early eighties we were still getting proper winters every year.
Did my old man, his brothers or any of the other spreads ever moan about the gear?
Nope, never.
So why would storage have suddenly become a problem over the last six years or so?

I tried it before when had problems with multi, used a few bags but never really perservied with it. I couldn't notice much difference other than went in quicker on re-skim. But I will now give it a proper try
It does get tighter quicker, thing for me is consistency, just being able to trust it bag to bag.

storage standards dropping, customers standards raising. Who knows.........

To be honest I never found mixing Sirapite, Thistle Board Finish, Sirapite B or even the early Multifinish a problem with a stick and plodger.
Even Multifinish works fine over Hardwall with suction.

believe it or not that was reality mixed that way on site work for many years
Through most of my apprenticeship it was stick and podger for finish/smal mixes and tin bath and rake for undercoats. On bigger jobs it would be a couple of mini mixers. In my last year we started using hilti drills with a paddle. There was a lot of plasterers back then that were coming back from working in Germany/holland were mixers with paddles were the norm.

big cog off a push bike welded to a shaft with aT bar handle was the in thing

I never liked mixing that way, although thats with hindsight. As they say suction can be your friend.

Could be BG trying to get people on to the skim Vincey uses to make more money by making the multi s**t.
If I do have a meeting with someone from BG one of my questions will be; "if you can make Pure Finish work nicely, why aren't you doing the same with Multifinish?". Simple question which I believe there is a simple answer to. I suspect that the answer will be like listening to a politician, lots of words, but no honest explanation.

Do you lay in with fresh gear Pete or the same mix?
Fresh at 2 hours mate most I’ve ever had is 2.20 and I put that down to room atmosphere, sometimes I lay in with same gear and got between 1hour 15minutes and 1hour 30minutes depends if I dropped a tad of water in to loosen up tbh on those two time difference
Is it just for boards or can you reskim with it
Boards reskim anything you’d normally skim over mate the only thing I would say is it constantly pulls in there’s no sitting in there waiting so especially on reskim prep well out of the 20/30 odd plasterers I’ve seen using it only two said it pulled in to fast for them, I personally put that down to them being so use to waiting for multi hanging around or standing there Stare ing at it

That's interesting mate, so basically it works just how Multifinish used to. Funny thing is that on a lot of our jobs there are areas (big, high vaulted ceilings) where we slow the gear down, it's the bloody tiger stripes, chewing gum, greasiness that I don't want.
Just yesterday, working in a really warm extension, we could see streaks in the gear as we were laying in. It's almost like there are two different materials in a bag that just don't mix together properly. Recycled gear maybe?
I did ask Jewsons for a quote on it this week. £7.50+vat as opposed to the £4.60 we're paying for Multifinish.

Mate tbh I don’t care one bit about price, from what you just said it’s like having your shoe laces tied to tight then saying your foot feels funny , Gordon, my cousin, my mates , and anyone else can say I’m mad but I’m happy with the gear , customers love it and do pay more , job done that’s all I’m bothered about is the here and now

I can only think of possibly two customers in the last six years that would have been willing to pay more for us to use Pure Finish.
If it was readily available I would give it a go but I don't want to be buying a pallet and then having to store any leftover gear. Very few (no) jobs work out to the exact pallet. With our varied work it could be months before we'd use it again.
My main issue is that if they can't make Multifinish the way they should then it should be scrapped.

Very consistent mate , 2 hour set, gear on flatten twice and cross done , no pissing about
It is the best gear they make imo anyway, I’ve used them all

Feels like just yesterday it was uni that was the best they made lol, until your lies got exposed.

It could be great gear but unfortunately no one should believe a word you say

Interesting this, and I propose an experiment in a house I'm refurbing soon. Just need 6 volunteers, 1 room each, 3 pure, 3 multi and we'll settle this once and for all.

I will of course pay fuel and provide lunch :inocente:

What about Uni ?

Stuff you Gordon, tbf I already know most wont listen I told andy about 6 months ago on a thread to try it, I read his comments and know exactly what he had going on , why do you think I tried spray finish unifinish dura finish pure finish , I already used board and multi , I found my gear I like and originally only answered lurpacks question at the start , tried to find stock for him and gave my best advice
Let’s not forget you are the only guy to ever say you never have a problem with multi finish
Don’t reply I don’t need you too I already have the photo shot of the thread you said it in
Will leave you all to it , enjoy your day
