multi finish s**t

We used board finish for ages until it set like crazy, even called the BG rep out who gave us a load of tosh. Multi was similar.
Recently we've been using board finish and noticed the bags have changed slightly (paper green and different design) and it got a lot better. Just doing some work for a plasterer mate and he's supplying multi (which has also got a light bag change) and its a lot better. Not as good as the old carlite finish (bring it back!) but not bad and finishes better than the old multi. Knauf to me gives a dull finish.

I dont know if your talking aboout the new uni finnish? You definately still NEED pva, simple as that, I tried it on an unpainted reskim of a wall and a painted skim on a wall and it sets instantly and crazy cracks all over. Cant understand how BG say this works without PVA because it just doesnt. Once you get the hang of it and you do PVA the wall first,it trowels up quite nice but definately need to PVA walls first. Any one else tried this? What are your results?

I cant see how BG have put a product out on the market with out testing it! Uni finnish does not work, you have to PVA the walls first, tried it and it cracks and sets straight away. Its rubbish! What are they saying on the bag of MF, no pva needed!! They must have tried it first, muppets!

Where did you get uni finish mate?
:confused::RpS_unsure:

Mnmm. no answer

Love multi finish now, easy to work with, just gotta stay on top of it if doing big areas, took a while to get used to quicker setting time when changing from carlite

Ive had a nightmare job this week, both board finish and multi not trowelling up properly and staying very rubbery, finish was shocking, troweled up as if Id one coated the walls!

Just over artex, standard job, same prep as always! not had a problem with setting like that for a good couple of years! kinda embaressing, luckily customers seen my previous work in their house, can only blame the gear, no idea whatelse!

As far as Uni finish goes, of COURSE youd still need to use PVA on re skims etc/ theres nothing BG could put into the gear to stop the moisture getting sucked out on old plaster, hardwall, bonding etc/ use ya brains ya ffs! By doesnt need PVA Im assuming (only assuming) they mean on backgrounds with NO suction, Artex, paint etc/ cos we use PVA to stick the plaster then, and generally not to kill suction (in some cases milding mind you).

Eh? Wait a minute, lads...haven't you read that i've used uni finish? I didn't use pva on an extremely high suction background and the job turned out fine. Yes, the first coat dries out very quicly as you would expect any plaster would woithout pva BUT put the 2nd coat on and all is well!

Be a pain if you had trowel marks on the scratch coat, say if you're breaking a new one in.

Done a large loft conversion this week and start off the week multi was hanging forever on the walls, over 2 hours for a one coat hit over plasterboard. Bought more multi towards end of the week and it was going solid in the bucket after 10 mins. It's a joke.

When we boned the BG rep about crap skim going off he gave us a load of tosh including 'sometimes be setting agent builds up in the chute and can all come down at once into a mix, thereby making it set faster'.
I once mixed some of the old board finish (the darker green bags) in a builders bucket with my gauger and struggled to skim a 6'x6' triangularish wall - the rep took that bag away with him to test and heard naff all of him. Did get a couple of hi-viz vests and a couple of tapes from his car though (gotta get yer freebies ain't ya lol)

Oh, and years ago my mate said they got a batch of skim with little or no setting agent in - they managed to scratch and lay a full downstairs of a house out then go and trowel it the next day.. BG said it'd take that long to set but they got several spreads to go in and trowel it up just in case.

Im fed up with BG, even board finish felt different today...grittier.

Tried Knauf board finish and was hit and miss with it...now its bloody discontinued!!

Trying MP finish next week...gulp...

Our local builders merch has just got all the bumf from bg about uni finish...it says they can't guarantee adhesion to textured surfaces :RpS_scared:
They threw it in the bin lol.

Don't know what you a all waffling on about, every surface will differ slightly.and temperature changes, add in mixing irregularities.use multi all the time no probs.bunch of savilles.

Exactly........i use multie all the time cant see a problem also been usin board on my mates job for the last week, same as, no problems.

I use Multi on all backgrounds, i'm based in Essex and it seems the best it's been in years at mo especially since the bags have the advert on them with the new plaster coming out.
