how many 8x4s does it carry mate

Not sure mate, Could probably get 50 or more in to where the bulkhead starts to come out but I wont put more than 30 in probably.

Not sure what the max weight it can carry, Andy might know?

What swayed it in favour of the merc rather than the transit dm?

The ride is much better, less bouncy. More room in the cab, passenger (me mostly) doesn't have to sit twisted because of the wheel arch.

Asked a load of mechanics and they said the transit engine was very weak and 100k miles was good, a lot dont make 70k apparently. Like the one that we had for 2 weeks, it needed a full rebuild after 45k. The merc engine is supposed to be good for 300+k.

Residual value, looks a bit nicer too imo.

You won't want to drive your car now Danny

I wont be driving it much. Me and the guy I work with are buying it together, he picks me up and drops me off each day and uses it as his vehicle in the evenings.

He pays for the insurance and tax on it himself though. I just share the cost of the van and the running costs.

Just checked, gross weight carried is 952 kgs. Me and my mate and a few tools will be 250kgs so maybe 25 boards then, if we have a load of tackle with us.

To be honest the payload is the only downside. I've got the extra long wheelbase and that only carries about 850kg, although I rarely carry materials anyway.

Yeah we're the same really. Only for smaller jobs, we get a delivery for the larger ones.

.

LOL the vito is in the main dealers with the gearbox stripped down.

Honestly I'm well fu,cked off with it all. We must have lost well over a grand with van problems.

It wont be ready till wednesday either, they are ordering parts for it from germany.

Vanmonster have a transporter we can use till its ready but were struggling to get temp insurance for it.

All jobs are getting put back and a house we were starting in 2 weeks has been brough forward a week.......Fcking stress levels are maxxed out.

On top of that, Andy is off to London for the weekend in 3 hours and we have to move a spine bendingly heavy oak wardrobe and pick up the temp van before he goes....that's if we can get insured and a cover note emailed to us. Vanmonster wont release the van without it. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

**** the bed mate thats crap!!! doesnt vanmaster have insurance and wont your fully comp insurance cover it?

transits are the best simples.we have brand new cirtreon's and their pants.if as said that trany is underpowered remember that to componsate youl'l be driving wi a heavy right boot,so economy wise it may not pay.

My Vito is on an 04 plate and has a few areas of rust coming through, so I thought lets see how much to get it looking like new again as I'm done spending on new motors.
Well the guy at a bodyshop that came highly recommended told me that the Mercs were the worst van he knows for rusting and that even when treated to the full works that rust will almost certainly break threw again somewhere. That's not what I wanted to hear.:RpS_crying:

The van in front with no rust on it and hasn't been sat in a garage all week is a Toyota :RpS_thumbsup:

No need for the smuggness spunk slurper. :RpS_biggrin:

We've had a bad run of luck with vans for sure.

Andy, I think after 2005 they started galvanizing their shells and giving a 12 year corrosion guarantee. But of course that means fu'ck all if you cant change gear.

Have you dealt with Merc or have vanmonster been doing that? Either way im sure if you went down there and spoke with them they would sort you out with a demo van to use.

Dealing with both mate, vanmonster have given us a transporter with 50 quids of fuel in it to use, as to buffer the cost of the 70 quid insurance.

Merc have been great though and said that it might be possible to get a temp van if all else fails. That isn't in the warranty.

It's more the time off that's bummed us. Easy a week off because of all this and that's bunched up all our work, means I'll have to work evenings and weekends or a while which in turn means I wont be able to spend much time with my 2 little girls. That pisses me off.

toyota is expensive but a quality vehicle. mercs always have trouble with gear linkage and not in the same league

like i said before you bought it my mate has a vito and has no end of problems with it, sorry pal had to say it

My 04 Vito 75000k miles is letting itself go now, its had 2 new rear shocks(only really carry tools) front and rear door hinges, rust spots, new electric window mechanism and now the control switches have started snapping off plus it eats tyres.

Don't the bigger merc vans last better?see a few of them about and they look good gear.shame bout the van crap d.mac

bigger mercs are just as bad mate my father in law has just retired from one of those parcel delivery firms and they bought a whole fleet of the big mercs and they all had serious problems with them, it was just one thing after anouther
