Tools being good then not

Ok so what is it with companies being great in the start then get successful then go to crap?

Marshall town use to be awesome..

So........ These two companies don't sponsor the site ......slag them...come on. Really Marshall town, feck Danny they having been making quality product for a few months now ! And I believe for one still are.

Makita has been always on the bottom regarding quality. It's popular only because they are "cheap". I have seen two drills melted down using holecutter , in one day. No torque , just rpm's. Hilti on the other hand is on the top.
Marshaltown are still on the top.
Tyzack still have some spirite left.
Refina are still in the race.
For the rest can't make a comment - don't have any of them

Anyone ever heard of scheppach saws? Looking at a plunge saw with guide rail

There crap, you'd be better spending another 200 to get a semi decent.
Mafell or festool if you want to go big

Nope the quality is not there anymore...

My makita 18v combi drill lasted 15 years.... the new ones are not lasting anywhere as near as long....

Companies seem to launch great tools early on then when they have a good rep start cutting corners....

Festool gear are nice, if you use it a lot it's probably worth it. Just tell your mate he needs to upgrade and you happy to buy his old one off of him for a bit of cash.

First ask yourself do i really need one ? or Would a half descent circular saw and guide rail do ? I ordered a plunge saw last year and sent it back unopened, I then went out and bought a descent circular saw and made a guide for it out of descent plywood. I could of stuck non-slip gear to the bottom but just use 2 speed clamps instead. Use good quality blades and, in all but a very few instances you can get the same results.

doing alot of kitchens and doors lately. Yes i could manage with a circular saw but could also spend that Little more and get a plunge that can be used as a normal circular aswell.

My chippy mate loves festoon

Hilti may also be coming on tpf ;-) I have an insider :-)

Up to the 80's everything was made in the spirite of competition and the mark was quality and durability . Who's product will last longer. After that all became commercial , but only few people can tell the difference and see it trough;)

Thinking of buying this one as most my gear is metabo but this is nowhere near as sexy as a mafell or festool Link Removed

Makita and dewalt now do two qualities. Trade and diy. You can get a 18v drill with 2 1.3ah batts for 99 quid. Or a better quality drill with two 3ah batts for about £200-300.

That would be great, I fancy their tools, if you can twist their nipples to give us some special discount would be great
