Thanks for taking the time to work that up. Unfortunately it too dear for this project, but I'll keep you in mind when I next refurbish my yacht.

There is no set day rate.. Its what a job is worth.. I just finished work today, easy days work.. £230 labour, yesterday, finished at 4pm.. £320 labour.. They are fair prices for repeat customers, its easy to keep busy earning decent money, you just have to know how to price and who to work for.

On the subject of yachts, I stumbled across YouTube vids of walk throughs on super yachts the other week.. Started binge watching them, £3mil, £6mil,£65mil,£150mil.. Absolutely mental

I suppose there is minimum you would work for, the upper limit is whatever the customer is willing to pay?

Zakkerly. I put myself and a labourer out at £280 day and that's in Donegal where wages really aren't up to much

I'm employed.

I make £2100 clear a month after tax, student loan repayments, compulsory pension deductions.

I then have to pay for my car and associated expenses so I can get to and from work- sadly it's not tax deductible since I work at a single place of work.

Oh I'm an Optician (opthalmic), seems fair to disclose seeing as I know what you all do.

If I was self employed I could earn £250 per day everyday, but I really can't be arsed with the hassle.. Some self employed people do charge more £350/day in parts of the country where they can't get opticians as easily or during periods of high demand (summer).

Nope that's not true. The market dictates the rate. Supply & demand, not academics- lol. I'm not an academic anyway, optometry is vocation. Much more like a trade in a way.

£200 a week for me, mostly the vehicle but then there is the accountant, plant and other equipment, health and safety equipment and clothing, insurances like public liability and employers liability. This is per average working week so to cover the weeks when you are on holiday, sick days, bank holidays, snowed and rained off (Rendering jobs mostly). When you are on your annual holidays the vehicle is still depreciating, insurance and road tax, advertising, insurances and accountant still needs paying. So £40 a day in overheads. Most tradesmen don’t know the true breakdown of their own overheads and fail to tally the value of their overheads on the profit and loss sheet even though it is clearly wrote down.

Labour is the same as above, a daily working wage plus extra to cover for the non working days just like you have to with a employee, they get paid holiday pay and sick pay plus training days. Also an allowance to cover for your pension contributions just like employees have given them by law.

The market has dictated.. You keep going for the cheapest prices though?

Supply and demand does affect wages.. (immigration).

Good on you for being honest, you seem like a fairly decent guy, you need to understand that you have to pay good money for good work though.. and that means you losing money in the process, your property value doesn't increase at the same rate you spend money on it.. Also don't forget you will actively decrease the value of it if you get bad quality work done.
