I would literally walk in, tell him to call me when he's cleared the room and walk out.... On a good day !
On a bad day, I'd tell him to stick his Poxy job up his jaxxy!!! :)
They're decent on boards and sand and cement. I've had a few instances where you have to hit the barbs in with a hammer when the corners arnt straight on over skims
Really ? I've found it a pleasure ?! It's lightweight and easy on the arms, mixes evenly and was generally more pleasant than hardwall or bonding in my opinion.
Did you try and put it on more than 10mm thick at a time perhaps ?
were doing an old cottage at the moment and with a scat/Tyrolean finish (not cullamix just knocked up ourselves to match the dopey old existing !
I work with 2 other olasterers and we all have a difference of opinion on the following >
1) how to prep the ruled off coat for Tyrolean. Do you...
I've got a Hilti sd however been using he new dewalt gun this week and I absolutely love it. It's basically a carbon copy of the Hilti but lighter and brushless. I got it for £280 inc charger and 2 battery's.. seems solid as a rock this far. Time will tell !
We work anywhere from Avon to Dorset mate. House bashing is not something I participate in anymore. Just find reputable builders and private clients with money. Generally you do a few nice jobs and their friends all que up for more !
It's true. People bang on about quality blah blah. I tacked and set a 40sqm lid in a day last week with no lab... And i don't consider myself to be the nuts or soecifically quick, hell 2 of my subbies make me look like a right slouch.
When I was learning my boss always told me until you can...
I'm sure I'll get flamed for this but whatever.
If you can't put on a 30sqm square ceiling on to new boards you ain't a plasterer yet kid, you're an improver. Having a lab is a luxury, is rather knock up myself and take all the burger money :D
I'd ask him to do the reveals himself to show you how he wants them and then put a level on it. You'll look a right c**t though when he gets them spot bollock on ! :D haha !
Failing that, just tell him to EAD round up your tools and withdraw some f**k off money from your account to pay the...
Yeah agree with Bobby, that's what we do also. Parex is good s**t, whack a coloured thin coat finish on it and job done.
If you want to use s and c sbr and cement mix and go into it wet, but I'd rather trust the parex.
Disagree. You can lay it on flat enough to not have to flatten it in at all before 2nd coating one of my ads lays it on so flat it looks like it's trowelled up already. And yes in my op I stated I own all of the mentioned products...
They are great if you struggle to get it on or lay it on...
But everyone should realise that the skill in skimming is laying it on flat in the first place!!! Flattening down should be simple, even with a 12" trowel!
The original sky walkers (the ones without those crazy feet on in the pic) are the nuts if you ask me. I've had a pair for 5 years now and still as good as the day I got them.
They feel solid and have rubber feet for grip ! Although I did once come off them and f**k me it hurt :( !!!
I have bought all of the above, used them for a bit and come to the decision that for skimming nothing is as good as a plain old marshalltown... I always go back to the same way I learnt as an apprentice, 2 coats, flatten in and polish!
Is it just me ? I see loads of boys work which is decent...
If you can't fix battens then Build a timber stud frame an inch of the wall, put a vapour barrier/tyvek under the head and floor plates. Board and set then off the the pub >>>>
Didn't bother taping it up as its not oak, just cleaned with a brush as we went and the builder stained wth saddolin after. Not sure which is worse setting it or decorating it !
f**k all that cutting in !
I already do all this builders work, he came to me and said he wants me doing the contract verbatim. He's expanding this year and doing 10-20 high spec houses at a time as opposed to 1-3 per project.
Truth be told, my current gang of 4/1 (inc myself) could happily just do each unit one by one...
Now there's a b*****d of a ceiling! I tried to angle the chippy into fixings the beams afterwards, b*****d wouldn't have it ! :) Looks good though.
Charged a pretty penny for it as well obv, my neck aches after that lot !
Eibenstock ftw, however if you want something cheap and only knock up a couple of bags a set, buy a vitrex, they're good value for money and nice and light.
where do you boys look for them ?
I moved to Devon from Dorset 6 years ago and the amount of shite workers down here is unreal. Seen so many jobs left rough/messy not finished etc.
Since moving here I've been through 5 labs before I found my lad who's still on after 3 years... He puts on all...
Eibenstock are the dogs dangles. Been working onsite last few weeks using a 110v, forgot how gutless/shite 110v is :( takes forever to knock 4-5 bags up :/
which is the best in the market iyo?
I've been using the bostik cemtone green stuff for a few months and it's mustard, sticks s**t to a blanket ! Thistles version is pricey but never used. It's all a. But messy though, Job for the lab of course :)
Bobby is spot on. if you're good, clean and produce reliable quality work, it'll all come to you in time.
Chancers (much like bitches) they come they go. Quality trades will always shine vs the pack.
Well I had taken some advice from an old boy who does a bit for me. Wondered if there was more wise-advice here from someone with lots of experience with stone.
Would you like some ketchup with that ?
So cement is OK even though it's stone ?
What about the moisture sweating through the walls inside ? (They're dry at the moment and stone is in good nick, but I've heard horror stories)
Did a stone barn in sand and cement 5 years ago and that's been fine. No cracks whatsoever but we used...
What's the best method/mix ratios for this ?
I'm assuming
Scat coat
Scratch
Topcoat
Should all 3 be 3:1 nhl 3.5 ?
3 days between coats ? How long will the top cost need to be left before it can be floated and sponged up ?
We worked on this huge block of flats in London years back. There was about 20 guys various trades there everyday living onsite, so we all got to know each other fairly well...
Some dirty f**k*r used to s**t in random places around the site and stick a flag made up of a cocktail stick and tin...
Got a big old farmhouse to do. The main dwelling is made of stone/Flint with some new build extensions being done in sand and cement..
I'm assuming the following is best for the stonework walls -
1)Scat coat 3:1 nhl mix coarse sand
2) Mesh/scratch coat to fill out 3:1 nhl plastering sand
3)...
Yeah there's plenty of time left on them, they were delivered about 10 days ago fresh from K-Rend.
£5 a bag delivered, that's half retail and my lab will load it/unload it for you like all good labs should !
Let me know f you want them and I'll organise something this week.
