Bad plastering and plasterer refusing to fix it or even come look

This is a ridiculously cheap price...you should always get 3 quotes to compare...unfortunately the best plasterers won’t get burnt twice and will always ask you where you live...depending on area they will instantly decide whether quote or not as they may decide it’s a waste of their time due to customers likely looking for cheap...I can never understand customers not being able to find a quality plasterers there is always a reason either they aren’t happy to pair a fair rate £250 - £300 per day (without labourer) or they are impatient and won’t wait.
I wouldn't say ridiculous , two lazy short days , the price is pretty irrelevant to me , the problem starts when the customer hasn't seen the spreads standard of work

I don’t wanna! I’ve gone home :numberone:

This thread has gone downhill too

True dat. Not even a kinder bueno in the bath can make this thread good again. Believe me I’ve tried

Bad plastering and plasterer refusing to fix it or even come look

Ps £360 is very, VERY cheap.
Wouldn't say it's very cheap. Alot of people would skim that in a day, especially if units are covering half the walls.. £330 for a days work doesn't sound to bad money. Depends what state the walls were in to start mind

I'm not saying this is anything special Barbara
but you would of got this if it wasnt 2nd fixed and boiler on.

I certainly wouldn't be happy plastering if sockets and boiler were fixed.

I may have some books that need returned from 25 years ago xx
You honestly think she’d have got this from this “plasterer”?? He didn’t loosen the socket faces or anything. Used a brush where he struggled.

Wouldn’t do 1 day for it lol
It looked awkward as f**k tbh which is the first sign the bloke who took the job isn't a decent plasterer as any decent one would of said I need all the electrics disconnecting and taped up.

Having said that I tend to finish with a trowel not a brush lol. It's a s**t job but a spot on job wasn't possible with all those electrics on

well I don’t see how that’s true. sounds like a very bad excuse if you can’t work around a few sockets.

It’s always the same excuse. You’d have got a better job if you’d have paid more. Everyone has a budget. That doesn’t give people an excuse to call themselves a plasterer and do poor standard work and say oh well I’m cheap so there you go.
It’s time all trades need to be regulated not just electrics and gas. anyone can go out buying the tools and say they are a plasterer which is wrong.
anyone on here trying to justify this guys work should not be in this game.

£250-300 a day give over. What’s that...75 grand a year.

Yeah if you work 5 day weeks 52 weeks a year and don't factor in the expenses of running a business... And tbh even if we did earn 75k a year what's wrong with that? I'm working on a million+ house at the moment and it's the finishing look of the house so I don't see why I should be paid less than the sparky or plumber. Put our bodies through hell, go out evenings and do quotes. If you don't earn decent money there's no point

If the lady who posted is reading this then hopefully you’ll see this honest opinion.

people on here telling you that you should have paid more is rubbish. Every tradesperson is in control of their own prices and will find a target Audience on this price that works for them. That doesn’t mean their standard of work should be poor.

someone said they’d want you to have sockets removed and wires taped back for a great finish. Again, that’s rubbish and a very bad excuse. Nobody should expect you to get an electrician in to do this very simple and unnecessary job just because they don’t have the ability to plaster around sockets.

the work this person has done for you is poor and citizens advise will most definitely assist.

I’m sorry that you’ve had to encounter someone like this and in future it’s worth doing some good digging online to find the right person. The cowboy types won’t have websites, google map account, yell etc where reviews can be seen by all.
Recommendation is always good but if you don’t know anyone who knows a plasterer obvs no good!

Lol you sometimes have 10-15 sockets going around kitchen walls, with 20mm gaps in-between them, and most people aren't tiling kitchens now it's just upstands and painted. If I'm skimming someone's kitchen then the sockets need to come off. You probably just have lower standards than me which is why you're shocked at £250-£300 a day

Yeah if you work 5 day weeks 52 weeks a year and don't factor in the expenses of running a business...
As for going round sockets I can get a nice finish around 1 socket yes, but chuck loads together like there always is in a kitchen and getting it perfect in-between them is near impossible. Compare that to cables taped and pushed back into the box and it's a nice easy wall that's spot on

75 grand a year. All you have to do is go on google, type in plasterers and see where they live in your local area. Not many seem to be living in 100k household income homes in my opinion lol.
thing is in this trade it’s always a bunch of idiots saying they can lay on 8 rooms a day, earn £300 a day bla bla bla. Been doing it for years...known the same plasterers for years since the college days and none of them are living this fantasy £75k a year life. Expenses of running a business? You’re a plasterer not Richard branson.
There are plenty of tools out there and ways of working around these problems around sockets and I just can’t accept that as an excuse for bad work.

sorry but there’s almost always enough cable to be able to twist the plug faces 90 degrees so you can get a tool in between the 2 sockets. I just don’t believe customers are going to pay an electrician to tape wires up for you, then refit the sockets once you’ve gone. Been in the game years mate and I know customers would not go down this route to please you

Mate what the f**k are you talking about? No one is saying most plasterers earn 75k+ a year.. if you think people don't charge that sort of money and regularly get it then you are obviously pricing the bottom end of the market and probably have the quality to match.

If you actually listen to what people say on here, there is no set day rate, why would you charge say £200 to skim out that kitchen when you can do one 4 times the size in the same amount of time..would you charge £200 for that too?

Anything up to £400 a day is standard, it's what the job is worth, not what you think the maximum you are allowed to earn in a day is. There are days you only have a small ceiling to skim, or a few reveals to patch... These are days you don't earn the best money, this is why you don't do 100,000k a year, filling everyday with the right job is almost impossible, I probably work 9-10 months a year.. depending on how busy it's been, holidays etc/ .. if you are employed you get paid 52 weeks.. not 40.. another reason you don't see trades driving Ferraris to often.

You say plasterers are idiots and talk s**t.. the irony is you are literally that person, if other trades can be professional and demand top wedge then why can't plasterers? You are the exact sort of person that complains at why the market is s**t whilst simultaneously being the one destroying it.

To give you an idea how it works in the real world as you seem to have it stuck in your head that self employed trades work 365 days a year..

I charge roughly £180 - £400 a day..
Average about £220 a day..
Generally do between £900-1500 a week

Work 40-44 weeks a year after taking out holidays, random days off, days I can't fill for whatever reason.

I hope this clarifies things a little for you to why trades aren't millionaires even when assumed they should be.

P.s. I even have time to unscrew sockets and wrap in plastic bags.

Nobody works 52 weeks a year. Say you work 45 weeks and get 1250 a week you'd be on over 50k. You honestly think some plasterers aren't earning that?

And most kitchen reskims I do are when customers getting a new kitchen and already have a sparky. All you have to do is have a chat to them and ask them to remove them for you. Makes it a nicer days work and more enjoyable than fannying about. If you want to keep working round sockets though you carry on

stop talking out your arse theres a reason why theres a first and second fix.
what planet do you live on.

Well the original brag was 52x250/300. Now all of a sudden it’s changing to 40 :)

12 weeks off a year. Alright for some :)

I think this old argument about why shouldn’tplasterers earn what electricians do is the fact you need less tools, less knowledge, less qualifications (none really) electricians are regulated by a body, plasterers aren’t so anyone can plaster at anytime (builders/bathroomfitters/decorators/handymen) they can all do their own plastering if they like.
Plumbing is similar. They are needed in emergencies, their work could cause serious damage if done in correctly or in cases of gas lives put at risk.

I know there is but the only person to blame here is this fake plasterer who’s done a shockingly bad job.
If it was a normal reskim the old sockets would be ok place anyway so he should gaze treated it the same as that. He’s incapable of working around a few sockets so it’s time he packed up I’m afraid.

We aren't saying we have 12 weeks off a year, some days you can't fill, people let you down last minute, job rained off, builder not ready, weddings to go to, holidays. So you lose alot of paid days. "Anyone can plaster at any time" no anyone can mix up and slap some on a wall, they wouldn't be doing the same job as a plasterer though

cheap job cheap finish.

Before I took his work. Was a spread working for a bathroom company. Majority of the work was a little ceiling skim. either board or pva’d ready. He’d pop in on his way home, skim it, get plaster everywhere and go. Only £120 a pop so he didn’t give a s**t about mess.

they now pay me and pay more. Because they know im good with customers and tidy. So by paying a lite more they get a better service. That’s just how the world works

I'm pretty sure it was only you saying 52 X 300?

You are right to a point regarding electrics and gas.. I know a gas guy who subs to people at £400 a day.. think his last tax return was about £95,000... Mega money.. we aren't expecting that as plasterers but ffs have some self respect for doing a job even most plasterers can't do well.

If you are decent, know how to run a business.. people will pay good money.

So it’s gone from 250/300 a day 5 days a week x 52...

now it’s days off for weddings and can’t fill your diary.
see what I’m saying....everyone brags.
40k a year is a more sensible figure!!! Now we have found someone normal in lurpak.

so that’s more like 180 a day which is what I believe more than this fantasy £400

thanjs
