Still reckon I'd give you and your machine a go with a handboard and trowel

I don’t hate the idea, cos I am one coating on site and I can tell the difference between wiz and wank.

If what your saying is true, you know 90 percent of work has a retention clause attached and a snagging process I wouldn't be still in work after 9 years if I was as bad as you seem to think.

I've also never seen anyone machine skim on sites here in the uk , plastering and tape and joint is all I've ever seen

No, unless you lay on with the toe of your trowel you end up leaving to much on the board and it dries

Don't think you need to do corners I'd say better to do joint first leave for 10minute becouse how many uneven joint do you come across. Even on new ceiling and studs

Sponge float is a good bit of kit to have I reckon. Recently bought one, great for a quick flick down your angles.

Bring skim back to life (within reason).

Nice orange colour.
