On gloss/semi gloss type paint always use neat pva. That first coat of gear needs to pickup or it'll slide. As the others said above Easifill it - try and get Easifill 20 if you can, Easyfill 45 won't take a sand after 45mins on that surface. What ever joint gear you use make sure it's not air drying...has to be setting joint cement. Don't beat yourself up about this - no ones perfect here, well....apart from me

Lodan, try and get 200 grit sand paper for the sanding - light touch when doing it. Put the gear on and don't mess with it, just feather the edges out. Remember mate plastering is a science...water + powder + timing = finished surface. You have to make mistakes to move forward and progress.

Wait until you have this type to deal with...little leak above his bathroom ceiling (lovely little job & easy day), tarps & dust sheets out - sorted, got the lath hammer out and chopped through the pb at one ceiling/wall junction...stuck my fingers up the channel I had cut and grabbed the ceiling, and in one swift pull detached the pb from the joists - all of a sudden this no longer felt like a normal weight of a ceiling, the whole thing came CRASHING down on top of the marbel sink worktop...smashed to pieces, water pissing from the taps everywhere - the builders who did a renovation had chucked all the unused concrete blocks between the floor above and the ceiling. Got to laff...it's only life
 
All for an hour early I bet you thought f**k it I'll do the last wall same bucket, easy done . Hope lessons learned stick to two coating fresh gear .. I was working with a one coat specialist who thought he was the bollox needless to say he had to redo a couple of walls. Take no chances mate your building a reputation for your self it's worked so far with two coating with fresh gear so stick with it.
Another thing I always tell the customer is to youse matt paint no matter how good you are silk paint is a plasterers nightmare.
 
I recon a sanding blocking and a bit of filler will have that looking great...

Things go wrong... you are going back to solve it, the rest of the job they are happy with so fix it move on drink less and get some sleep :D

Yep agree on the silk paint I always tell them to use matt.silk paint is for new houses that have been joint and taped
 
U want to look wat skim looks like with vinyl sheen paint! Wen we did all them flats our skimmers were going to walk off Job after first few as painter was using light purple sheen paint..literally showed everything up so told foreman there need to use matt which there agreed and did..
 
This is why airless plaster is far better than multi. U can paint it with anything and it still looks good. Don't have to worry about lights. But am going skimming tomorrow guess what I'm using ffs :(

We did some work around a swimming pool once, 4 spreads all good ones.
Mahoosive walls, 50 ft high some of them, got painted with vinyl silk and I can't describe how rough it looked....
Anyway after the foreman gathering the painters gaffer and us lot around a table and emails forward and backwards.... (we stood our ground saying the walls were good standard)
It was finally found that the blame lay with the architect for getting them to use vinyl silk paint.....
BG had been contacted and had said that skimming should never be covered with such paint and will always look awful.
It's in the small print somewhere.....

Without sanding and filling and sanding and filling etc on a reskim some walls will always look shite as skim should be no more than 3mm to 4mm at a push!??? tell em to s**t off and bone his missus
 
Well f**k me how times have changed. I get out of the shower. Walk into my son's room. It playing PlayStation 4 God knows who the f*** he is talking to online. Probably a paedophile. But anyway. I walk into my kitchen and my wife is doing his f**k**g school Christmas decoration for a competition. All I said was u hadn't time to f**k last night but u have the time to do his f**k**g home work. As usual she just laughed at me.

Here's an idea,if the walls are skimmed in the opposite direction to your normal pattern,right to left instead of left to right if that was hard to understand,then the day light should cause less shadowing,it's the same as when skimming a bedroom ceiling always skim across the window not away from it or you will see what look like faults in the plaster.
 
Ok vincyplazflex,what about this one,did a ceiling this morning and right at the end was told I should also have skimmed around the window,they knocked me for a ten pound,who do I contact about this???

Said it before pal you can't always get away with 2 mixes a day, was it good job or have ripples as well
 
@Lodan , mate we've all had this sometime. My guess is as you surmise, 2nd coat pulling the first one about a bit. FYI I always flatten in both directions with the trusty old speedy on the first coat, if I'm over pva I sometimes really leave the first coat to really set , washing in corners etc cleaning etc before giving it a 2nd coat.
@clemo is right, go over the bad wall with either easifil or joint cement (my preference), if you get it really tight it will only need a fine sanding to finish it off.

@Lodan another tip is to put the first coat on and scour it when gone abit with a poly float and a bit of water this will get it flat

Here's my tuppence worth!

1) Always know your background before deciding how to tackle for example.

A) boardwork can be 1 coated or 2 mixes from same gear if done properly!

B) High suction can be 2 coats from same gear.

C) Painted substrate always best to let 1st really pull in and use a fresh 2nd mix

D) Artex 1 coat of magic mix followed by a normal skim 2nd coat.

You can't always take short cuts but the secret is to use them where you can.

Also as everyone will tell you any wall REGARDLESS oh how applied will look shite with any acute light angle down it!!!

I will stake my home on the wall in question being a paint surface which you didn't allow the PVA to 100% dry also probably a week ratio before then trying to use 2 coats from 1 mix hence it sliding and smudging as it stiffened up!

If ever using 2 coats from 1 mix or 1 coating ALWAYS ALWAYS let pva go totally dry even if you have to return following day etc.

And remember depth is skims nemasis often best to dub out heavy Areas first if needed ie beads etc.

it looks like the carbonite fridge hans solo was kept in by Jabba the hut.............Vince, plasterman,unifuckface or what ever he is called has a lot to answer for
