Thistle UniFinish Q&A

How is durafinish different to unifinish as they are both able to adhere to smooth surfaces with no need of pva but durafinish cannot go onto a well keyed browning or hardwall without the need for gyprime?!
Can unifinish be applied to a painted surface flattened but second coated with multi or board finish?
James I have used the multi second coat technique with unifinish on few occasions and is by far the best way to do it. Unifinish can be a nightmare to finish sometimes and a combination of s*p*r*lex and plaziflex needed to get a good finish.

I like the sound of the blue packets , also a quick set bonding .... Even a hour set skim ..... Also would love to hear your answer for not endorsing pva but then no need for pva on unifinish ........ Think its just made up as you go along ..... The no pva was a way of hiding there heads in the odd time of a fail .... Ahh you never used bond it good bye !

I've used uni finish on re skim for a few of backgrounds,
First was on old sand and cement where tiles had been stripped. First coat pulled in instantly had to flatten with gear left in bucket, second ( or third if you count flatten coat!!) pulled in quick lots of water ok finish for tiling!
Second was 25m artex ceiling, went pretty much the same!!
Third was over a silk paint. Perfect!!
Lesson learnt.. Shite for any suction control but great for silks/kitchen/bathroom paints!
Enough said

I pretty much found the same, re skimmed an apartment with Unifinish, on all the painted surfaces it went really well and a pleasure to use, on the old bare plaster walls though it sucked in like hell, stuck with it and it all come good but was hard work!

Hi all,

Our first will be on April 8th with our Innovation Project Manager, Steve Limb, who can talk all things Thistle UniFinish. He’ll be online from 4-5pm, but if you’re not available then (or if you already know what you want to ask), just post your question below and we’ll respond to you on the day.

Just noticed that the Q and A is on a Wednesday afternoon between 4 and 5 :estudioso: Could be a non event :aburrido:

Most will still be at work then or on the way home. How about 8 till 10 on Friday 10th:popcorn: I think there will be a better response then :birra:

Can it be like a face chat event where we can see Steve's face :guitarra:

That is a very valid point.....

I would like to get to the bottom of tiger stripes and ribbing :-/ who's fault is it.... Oh unifinish q&a.... hmmmmm

seems to have gone full circle now! years ago, using sirapite you could have a 15 minute set. the more thistle board finish and lime you added the slower the set. then they brought out multifinish which was so slow you only had 1 hit a day, which they advanced after about 1 year to what we have today.

Disagree on that one Malc, Sirapite B used to hang around for ages which was good if you were a 1+1 gang. Also could be re mixed for an early lay in

I do agree its convenient timing but to BG's credit at least they've took a bit of notice and actually bothered to make an effort (it seems)

I just hope its not full of generic scripted answers and is actually useful.

Maybe there should be a day where they have a "questions for us" thread instead of a unifinish hour.

yeah that sounds good to me. they were like that with the ripped bag fiasco last year. they eventually sorted it. they seem a bit thin of late though. like cheap bin bags that tear when your taking out the rubbish. i have a feeling you may be right and that the answers will reflect what the product literature says. i wonder if steve has actually used any unifinish? bg are too blase because the are the main player and knauf havent got the nouse or balls to get their products in the big sheds. one day it will change. like firefox and internet explorer. or google and yahoo. and then it will be sayonara. im working tomorrow and then till thursday next week then off on holiday. when i get back i have another empty house to do for a landlord. im gonna go over to ccf and stock up with mp finish for the whole job. its a small step but its one in the right direction:guitarra:

Thats what i was thinking. I have a feeling any question will go nowhere really but fairs fair we'll see i guess. I've never used it so i couldn't offer a genuine useful question really but im interested in it because i like the idea of it if it worked well. I just can't see how it could though.

I can see how a sealed surface can take a wet medium such as plaster and the plaster will adhere to it. I can't get my head round a high suction background not taking all the moisture out of the plaster and leaving it unworkable.

I'd love to have a go with the knauf stuff though, people seem to love or hate it, is it just more consistent?

I'd love to have a go using the mp finish jureck might try and get hold of some !bgypsum same old finish #boring lol

we would fit the rules, sirapite with just a handful of board finish to a set of angles, which would set very quickly, drop rules, and put the room on.
there was a sirapite that came in a plain brown bag that one was very quick and you would have to kill that one by mixing it twice.

My local TP got a pallet of unifinish. Sold two bags and gave me a burst bag for free after days of asking. Didn't really take to it it's abit like fire plaster, which is awful stuff. Then they binned the rest, over 50 bags I think.

One stop shop should knock mp out maybe they do already its got to be the latest craze after Nela in conjunction with the Neal lol

PISS is agood price compared to CCF  CCF is down by huskisson dock bagrat off stanley road by beers and TP

Thanks jurek,we have a travois in the town though I never use it bit may have to take a trip down to see what's what:)
