Obi wan...brilliant, that's bang on marshy. Type Jeremy Corbyn shorts into Google images, f**k**g class. Whatever you think of our leader, he's real. Promise no wind ups, I really do reduce people's quotes that might be struggling if I can stick it on a posh t**t's bill. Good to hear the opinions on this though, has got me thinking...rates just gone up £10 a day, thanks guys.
Im not arsed what polotics or religion you follow etc. I think its all a load of wank. So long as you dont preach it to me its fine do what you like. But i aint the kind of person to stay quiet when i read a post that needs a reply or putting right or giving it with both barrels :birra:

@gps I'm rarely home before 4pm each day, 7.30pm last Friday, in fact I said to the customer a lot of spreads I know would've gone home couple of hours ago, but I want that sweet spot for the final trowel. I often take 1.5 days on a job where a lot of spreads will quote 1 day, I lose money, but I'm proud of my work and the way I approach it. I suffer with severe bouts of depression and stress, but whilst debilitating I don't see it as being "weak" thankfully society is changing slowly and more and more agree.

What's this sweet spot you speak of? it's either flat or it's not, you staying late on jobs to make walls shiney?

That bit where it just starts to pull a bit and every remaining air bubble is trowelled out, but before it begins to polish. You may not see others do it, by I see spreads f**k off home before it's finished regularly.

Quick tip if you've put it on neat and tight you won't get them aero bubbles so u won't need to wait until start turning colour to finish

Before it turns colour and I'm talking very few bubbles if any, but can be great indicator as to when it's finished. My opinion only, we've all got our own process. Beddy- 2nd coat goes on, trowel over straight away with s*p*r*lex to flatten as much as poss then a wet one, another wet one and a final dry trowel.

1st coat flatten lay down and keep troweling Til I'm happy with it up down left right never had a problem :D

First coat nice and neat
Lay in
flatten
1st rub
another final rub

Can't be doing with that over-trowelling s**t. Giving yourself more work and it's actually counterproductive when the painter will have to sand it to get a key for the paint.

I just trowel Til I'm happy with it no need for the shiny walls as long as neat tidy no defects that's what your looking for

I remember watching a video on youtube can't remember who it was might have been one of Tommy Walsh's little golden nuggets instructing 7 (SEVEN) wet and dry trowels to complete the job.

Mentalist!

Well look this is probably going to be really unpopular and before I'm shot down my mum suffered with depression before she passed away last year, it is those that are mentally weak that suffer, which is my opinion I could expand but I cannot be bothered

Btw squarehead what's your other names on here ?? Do come clean

They all crawl out of the woodwork when they want something

Yes i agree, had a call from a lady i not heard from in ages and wanted two ceilings skimmed. I told her the price but she asked for a reduction as it was two, i said "mom! i dont reduce a price for anyone!!" :nocausagracia:

OK, that's a fair comment, it is the weak minded that can suffer, you're right and it's horrific when it hits. Chairman of HSBC once said he had his leg broken in 10 places and it wasn't a patch on the bout of black dog he had, a man with huge ability but that one weakness. (Not sure what you mean about the other names thing?)

@ GPS I have to disagree it's just either in you genetic make up or not....

I've suffered on and off for 20 yrs...I'm from a tough respected family of grafters...

Just in the process of having my little lad looked at as he's got shocking low self esteem and really manic low mood and outlook and he's only 10.

From a very loving family and has looks and natural popularity to die for.

It's impossible to get across what it's like, all I say it's like being nailed alive in a coffin. I've been at work before literally led on the floor foetal position, getting up to trowel again and then back on the floor again, hoping I'll have a blowout on the way home and crash in a ditch. Couple of weeks of that and the mood lifts and wonder what it was all about. f**k**g terrifying, terrifying for the wife and kids to see and that gets me the most. MIND website is excellent for anyone struggling.

F me this thread is making me depressed now no offence but I'm pretty much happy go lucky and many in world worse off than me this is a plasterers forum not a phycologists forum sorry chaps

Its actually the mentally strong that suffer with depression and anxiety.... a strong mind will take you to the top but that strong mind can crush you twice a quick

Life's too short to be worrying and getting stressed, the way I see after getting through the recession in Ireland what does'nt destroy you makes you stronger.A good dark sense of humour, plenty Guinness and happy kids is all one needs.

Your wrong but that's acceptable because you are new and have only just joined. We are a very close bunch and all stick together as one voice in the plastering world. When one of our comrades feels down or wants to discuss difficult subjects we listen first then laugh second but we always listen. I have lost count of the times members have PMed me with their problems and not just plastering related. I have had grown men ring me in the day in tears about issues related to plastering and family and I have always listened, then laughed. We all have one thing in common on this forum and it's not just the trowel, we are all sad bastards with nothing to do with our evenings xx

I can agree to an extent and can enjoy banter as you might see from the way I am but for me to ring up someone on here to tell them my problems I can't really see that happening from my point of view, plus I'm the sort of bloke who the Samaritans put the phone down on I shall take your words but if I'm really honest I will probably discard them as your trying to make an issue out of nothing

Really could sense a tone of you trying to throw your weight around we been here before and we know where that ended up,you was the one picking up on what I said and I stick by them comments I you have a problem so be it

You would think that being up north your humour would be superior to us southerners but you flynnyman are seriously lacking humour I've coming across some proper funny and interesting people on here yet ur not one of them
Hahahahaha you just answered my last post and now it's a geographical thing? Funny how southerners always go back to that but on this occasion I will call you on it. When did it become common knowledge southerners were known for their humour? Yes exactly never :) I'm not gonna take this thread further off discussion and didn't mean to but will ask other members did they take my post about other members ringing me in tears serious?
