Just out of curiosity, and if you’ve got the time, what’s your method to s&c rendering?
The man I used to work with was:
4-1 with plastersicer top coat
5-1 with waterproofed top coat
Don’t do much of it, and just helping out friend.
Scratch coated yesterday using 4-1 with feb plasterciser . Didn’t realize but the cement we’ve used had plasticiser in already. (Master grade cement)
Came to mind top coat and still relatively soft. Could scrape off with scraper.
Should I...
So just bang a cap full of feb mix in per mix you reckon? Will the waterproofer in the scratch will hold it back a bit. Just a bit worried it’ll suck in very fast with the weather.
scratch coated a garden wall today
4-1 with optimix waterproofer
Just wanted opinions on whether to use the waterproofer in my top coat as well tomorrow, or just use feb mix?
Going to be hot again tomorrow, so could be wise to use it. But then again it’s not a massive area.
Any advise...
Around the joints is raised.
I’ve bangs first coat on, and can see it’s bone dry on some joints already. I flatten in with speed skim, then second coat with fresh mix or if it’s only been a small mix I second coat with same stuff
I tried sponging to see if it makes a difference but still...
been skimming on a job that I haven’t boarded. It’s not best or worst I’ve followed. I’ve noticed a lot of the joints are sucking in really fast, I’ve two coated and steel troweled, and also sponged some areas and notice there seems to be a slight raise on the joints when finished. Not really...
We went down last summer and did a bungalow. I didn’t price the job but we did okay out of it. This time there’s a lot more work. I will be pricing it this time and would just like some idea of day rates/m2 prices from lads down there so I can use them as guidelines. Are you from the area ?
Digs is paid for, fuel we will split. Be down for 2 weeks at a time. Me and another lad going to skim only, 4 bedroom house. I would just like to get an idea of prices from lads in Devon area so when I get the drawings work out how much area there is to cover and what we can charge.
Because I’m not overly fussed about working away, unless it’s worth it. Money tends to differ the further south you go, so just trying get an idea that’s all, and why I’m asking the question on the forum...
We did a job last summer in okehampton, but I didn’t price it. Got 16 houses to do this summer. It’s for a builder in the north east. Would like to know what average price m2 is down there just to help us price, or even day rate?
Got to price a job in Devon for a builder we know, coming down from north east.
Full house to do onto fresh plasterboard.
What’s average price for m2 ??
Any help would be appreciated
Depending on background. Usually staple on board work, and if reskim try clout nails or sticking them. What ever seems best at the time. How'd you do yours ?
I think you can but think it cost a fortune to get assessed on site. When I was at college there was older lads who were good plasterers but had no college qualification. So they had to go through process like the apprentices. Obviously they didn't have to do most of the stuff in college as they...
That's not the case with me. I was just wanting to try something different and see how it turned out. Like I said earlier I've seen results of a sponge finish from some lads and can't fault it.
I've started using flexi trowel and makes life easier. Keep hearing about sponging and how it makes it easier/better finish... thought I'd try it see what it's like
What's your method if you're sponging
the job I seen done by lads sponging looks spot on, and I love seeing rough work as it makes me feel good about myself but I've got to give credit where it's due...
What's your method for sponging on board work ?
Seen some lads work and couldn't pick fault with it.
I was never taught how to sponge so lately it's been trial and error after watching some videos on YouTube.
I'm putting two coats on, flattening with speed skim then another flatten, lightly...
Looking at buying speed skim. Just wondering which one to buy as there seems to be a few different types of blades. Or do you need both types? And what size is best, 900 ?
Any advice is appreciated
Thinking of buying the nela s*p*r*lex gold edition trowel (not sure what the golds for)... anyone got one ?
I had to the MT flexi trowel but f**k*d it before xmas. I've heard good reviews about the nela so thinking of trying it.
Any advice appreciated
Heard you can apply primer then go straight over normal sand and cement render but just don't get the guarantee you would get from using the correct base coat. I was told you could go over painted surfaces with tc render awel.
customer doesn't want angle beads using as it will need skimming on ceiling side and look like its bulging out... But surely if I use stop beads I'll have to scrim on ceiling side up to stop bead and then skim/fether out ?
Do you use stop beads all the way around ? I've got a job to do where velux has been put in so need to board reveals and patch in round the ceiling round windows...
Had to go A&E today after I got got plaster in my eye. I've had bits in before and it normally washes straight out. But this was awful, my eye wouldn't open and it killed. They washed it out for ages and took pH levels... Got to go back in two days for them to check up. Sight is bit blurry but...
The bit I've patched it roughly 1m2 and it looks like square darker patch compared to rest of the wall. There's also little light patches that have been missed. I thought if I painted it, it would be one consistent colour ?
Also how much paint cost for 50m2 ? (Guesstimate)
Did first job using parex scratch render, had to patch wall up only to later find you are unable to patch up next day... So it looks s**t. Going to paint it, just wondered if anyone has painted scratch render ? Is the parex paint reasonable price ? Can't get in touch with parex rep
Yeah, some walls looks spot on some have tiny light spots on them. Suppose its trial and error though lads. Going to Ireland Tuesday to do krend course so hopefully get bit more insight into the product... Also where can I buy the krend paint ? Can't seem to find it online
One of the walls we have done has lighter spots on them as if they've been missed when scrathing. When we scratched them when weve been back it just made a bigger light patch ? Will it all eventually dry the same ??
Haha yeah its mind numbing at times, don't get me wrong I love plastering. Just can't stand the sites doing same s**t everyday with no variety. Going to try wean off the sites into private. Sites are just big slavery camps ha !
Served my time on sites just boarding and skimming houses and find it monotonous. Going to try that krend course in Ireland and do some free labour with an old time renderer to pick it up.
